The first time I traveled south of the equator - it was for an astronomical observing run in Chile in the early 1980s - nothing so strongly drove home the fact that I was in the southern hemisphere as seeing the constellation Orion upside-down. During the present trip, nothing so strongly drove home the fact that we were in Africa as seeing White rhinocerous.

Yearling ostrich on an ostrich farm. We did not officially see wild ostrich, because we did not go to the Kalahari, but who can resist this expression?
